Consols remain at New Zealand securities are unchanged. Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, remains at 38s; and New Zealand ditto, 30s to 365. Adelaide flour, ex store, 25s 6d. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 1,900,000 quarters, being the same as the quantity last week. Australian tallow, average quality beef, 34s] ditto mutton, 34 s 6d; New. Zealand frozen mutton, prime quality, is quoted at The Melbourne portion of the cargo of frozen mutton, ex Gatonne, is selling at 3d, and that from Sydney at 4d to Both shipments were landed in good condition.-
The Aorangi
Capetown, January 9.
The Aorangi, with New Zealand mails dated London, December 29th, sailed for New Zealand to-day.
Panama Canal. The Foreign Committee Senate has reported in favor of ratifying a treaty with Nicaragua for establishing control over the Panama Canal, notwithstanding the objections which have been made thereto by the British Government.

The tenders for the New Zealand loan amount to L 4,190,000, and tenders at L 99 6s 6d will receive 65 per cent of amount tendered for, not 30 per cent as previously stated.
Shipping. Arrived, at Plymouth—Steamship Orient, from Melbourne (Nov, 28th) with a cargo of frozen meat. SamoaLord Derby is not in favor of annexing Samoa as proposed by the New Zealand Government. Telegrams from Berlin state in well-informed circles that it is generally believed that both Germany and the United States would strongly protest against the annexation of Samoa by Great Britain.
German Mail Steamers. Berlin, January 10.
A lengthy and animated debate occurred in Reichstag, in committee on a Bill for subsidising lines of mail steamships to Australia and the East, and despite the efforts of the Government a sub-committee was appointed to consider the details of the scheme. African Coast. News from West African Coast states that the war vessels ©lga and Bismarck recently landed marines on Cameroon’s Coast and severely punished natives who have rebelled against the German rule.

Recidiviste Bill.
In commenting on the present position of the Recidiviste Bill the Times to-day believes that the measure will ultimately pass, but that-it will remain practically a dead letter.

In the supplementary report on the Recidiviste Bill, the Committee of the Senate admits that New Caledonia is glutted with convicts, and considers transportation of further shipments to Noumea undesirable. Serious Outrage. New Yobk, January 10.
. A serious affray occurred to-day, in O’Donovan Rossa’s office in this city. It appears that an Irishman, a member of the Invincible party was invited into Rossa’s office, and while there was set upon and stabbed to death by other members of the Society. The crime, it is stated, was committed on account of the murdered man having divulged secret plans of the Society. O’Donovan Rossa disavows all complicity in the affair.
