German Annexation. Melbourne, To-day. Mr Murray-Smith, the Agent General in London, telegraphs to the Government that he has seen Sir Robert Herbert, permanent Secretary to the Colonial Office, and that that official doubts the reported German annexation of the northern portion of New Guinea and the islands New Britain, New Ireland, New Hanover and Admiralty Group. The Agent-General adds that the German Embassy in London denies the truth of the information received to that effect.
