BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the i Borough Council was held last evening, i when there were present—The Mayor, I and Crs R. Friedlanuer, A. Harrison, S. Nelson, R. Bird, J. Orr, W. Leggett, T. Seaiy, an<J A. Orr. The minutes of the previous meeting tyere read and confirmed. ; -YAYOII’s STATEMENT. His Worship said that ihe debit balance at the bank was L4IQ 15s. L 283 5s had been received for rout of reserves, etc, since last meeting. x heroesr. Mr W. Patching wrote, asking permission to remove a building from the railway reserve, East street, to the back of. his section- --Consideration postponed to ; next meeting. MOOKE STREET (3KOB£JNfI. A letter was read from RLr JT. P. Maxwell, informing the Council that the application for re-opening the Moore street crossing could not be granted. The.recent narrow escape in Burnett street was'a proof tha 1 - a further crossing would be an additional source of danger.—Received. BURNING RUBBISH. ~ _ '■ Ward was granted leave to Mr Josepa .. burn rubbish on his sectm..— NEW LAMP. Mr J. P. Butler was granted permission to erect a lamp post at his licensed premises in Hav look street. ENGINEERS’ REPORT. The following report was read and adopted:— We have to report as follows:—Formation of Grey street : H. Hooper, the contractor whose tender was accepted for this work, now declines to carry out his contract at the price named in his tender. The Works C ommittce think it would i e inadvisable to allow him any advance on h‘s tender, and recommend that the wo k be carried on by day labor. They also refer to the Council the question of forfei • ing Hooper’s deposit. —Tenders have been C lied for fencing reserve on the Alford Forest road, and they will be laid before you this evening.—The Labor Gang have been engaged W forming Havelock and Cameron streets
West part Winter str et, spreading shingle, clearing channels, etc, repairing fence in Baring square, making and fixing culverts and bridges, attending to water supply, etc. TENDER. The tender of Michael Scanlan, at 21s per chain, was accepted for fencing section on tho Alford Forest road. ACCOUNTS. The usual monthly accounts having been passed for payment, the Council adjourned.
