THE AUSTRALIANS IN ENGLAND. ' [reciter's TELEGRAMS —COPYRIGHT.] London, July 17. The Australian team commenced a match to-day at Lord’s, against eleven of Middlesex. The Home team went first to the wickets, but failed to make a stand against the bowling of the Australians, and the innings closed for a total of 63. The visitors than went in, and when time was called had scored 179, with one wicket still to go down. [Received July 19, 130 p.m.] London, July 18.
The cricket match Australians v. Middlesex concluded to-day at Lord’s grounds. The weather was fine and the attendance good. The Australians with nine wickets down for 179 resumed their innings, which closed for 188 runs, Murdoch'btipg not out 64. The Home team being 135 to the bad, went in for their second innings, but only succeeded in scoring 106. and the Australians thu« won the match by one innings with 29 runs to spare. For Middlesex, in the second innings, the highest scorers were : —Lucas,J run out, 26 ; and O’Brien, b, 26. The bowling of the visitors was dead on, and the wickets of the Englishmen fell rapidly.
