THE MAIL ON LAND MONOPOLY.

To the Editor. Fir, —The Mail of this morning criticises Mr Grigg’s political opinions in its usual strain, and vigorously denounces land monopoly and land monopolists, of whom it asserts Mr Grigg is one. Now, it is true that Mr Qrigg is the fortunate owner of a large estate ; but it is equally true that the Longbeach estate is a highlycultivated farm, giving constant employment, di ectly or indirectly, to scores and scores of persons. Assuming, however that the evils which the Mail so graphically describes really do exist, J would ask the Wakanui electors to ponder on this question —What has Mr Joseph Ivess done during his Parliamentary career to abate those evils 1 He was elec ed on the cry of a bursting-up tax. Hundreds of electors voted for him in the full belief that, if returned, he would strive to carry his pretended principles into effect; but, while he sat in the House, he did not even table a resolution, or do one single thing; towards huratiog-up the large estates, and he now declares that the never advocated a bursting-up tax at all! What name can be given to such a man, but that of a polical impostor? Mr Grigg, on the other hand, has always been to the fore when any movement of real importance to the farming interest is going on—in is a man of deed*, while Mr Ivess is a man of words.—l am, etc..
