Brisbane, To-day. The Queensland Parliament has been opened. The Governor’s speech on the occasion stated that the revenue returns for the past twelve months showed that the prosperity of the colony was increasing. Thr speech promised . the Introduction of Bills for the following purposes: —To prevent the landing of criminals on the Queensland coast; to provide for the appointment of an additional Minister; to amend the Volunteer Act and remodel the force; to provide for railway extension out of Ipans; to authorise the recoupment of expenses of the members of the Assembly. [Received July 9, 2.10 p.m.] Arrived. Adelaide, To-day. Arrived—John Elder, front Plymouth. The Convention Debate. Melbourne, To-day. In the Legislative Assembly last evening the resolutions of the Sydney Convention were again under consideration, when Mr Wrixon moved a series ot amendments modifying the constitution and functions of the proposed Federal Council, especially in direction, providing for the representation of the various colonies on the Council on the basis of population. After discussion the amendments were rejected by a large majority. Mr Service has moved a notice of motion for an address to the Queen embodying thd Convention’s resolutions.
