The Ormondville Tragedy. This morning li. li. Edwards, charged with murdering his wife and four children at Ormondville, was put on his trial. On the question “ Guilty or not guilty!” being asked by the Registrar, the prisoner remained silent about a minute, during which the crowded spectators held their breath. The Registrar again put the question, and the prisoner replied, “ Guilty.” Then there was another deadly silence, which was broken by the prisoner adding,- “ Guilty, but I was not in my right mind.” This was taken as a plea of “Notguilty." The trial will last all day, but no new facts Are likely tp be brought to light. Divorce Case. Wellington, To-day. In the Divo oe Court a petition has been filed in the case of Craig v Craig. Th petitioner, who is a gardener residing iii the Butt district, seeks a dissolution of marriage on the grounds of his wife’s adultery. Miners on Strike. Kimara, To-day. There are now 96 miners on striae against the new regulations that have been issued for the use of the sludge channel. The men complain that the regulations are too oppressive, and would not enable-them t» earn more than a bare living, as the price of water for sluicing is 20s to 23s higher than in any part of the colony. Suffocated. Charles Klees, who used to keep the hotel at the month of the Teremakau .river, Was suffocated in his claim. At the inquest a verdict of accidental death was returned.
