THE AUSTRALIANS IN ENGLAND. [reuter’s telegrams—copyright.] London, May 24. The Australian cricketers played a match to-day at Birmingham against an eleven of the Midland Counties. The latter went in first, and scored 82. The bowling of Spofforth did great execution, and there was a bumpy wicket. The Australians went in, but only succeeded in putting together 76 runs, or six ba'i iid their opponents. The latter in their second innings were all disposed of for 2s, leaving the Australians 33 to get to win. They obtained the required number with a loss af six wickets, thus winning the match by four wickets. The weather was fine, and there was a good attendance of spectators. Spofforth in the first innings took six wickets for thirty runs, and in the second innings secured seven wickets for three runs.
