The latest news from Zululand announces that an engagement has taken place near the border of the reserves between the Usutus and the friendly tribes, in which the latter were defeated, and Mr Osborne, Resident Commissioner, has consequently been compelled to retreat. It now transpires that it is the Turcoman tribes on the Afghan frontier who have tendered their submission to Russia, and not the tribes at Herat, as stated in yesterday’s telegrams from St Petersburg. The Panic Subsided. New York, May 17. The panic on the Stock Exchange has now subsided, the Banks having combined to act together for their mutual assistance.
