[per press association.] The Auckland Dock. Auckland, To-day. The new plana for the Auckland dock are completed, and it is estimated to cost under L 120,000. Thera is no alteration in the size, but it will bo taken two feet further in shore than was proposed by the former plans. Embezzlement. Wellington, To-day. At the Pol'ce Court to-day W. O McDermott, for embezzlement of moneys of the Government Insurance Depart* ment, was sentenced to six months’ with hard labor. A Law Point. Hokitika, To day. At the District Court 1 yesterday the case of the Borough of Hokitika v. the Westland County Council was heard'. The question was whether the boroiigh or county was entitled to the fees paid for auctioneer’s license by Mr Robinson. It appears that Robinson's license empowers him to sell anywhere in the Provincial District of WeStland, and he sometimes conducts sales at Greymouth and Hokitika,'but generally at the cattle yards at Airabjira. His office is in Hokitika and fie oondppts correspondence from there apd also kpeps books there. Judge Broad he|d that a man's usual place of business was where the supreme management or administration was carried on as a whole, and not any place where he might transact some special portion of it, and decided that the borough and not the county had a right to the fees.
