(PK.K PRESS ASSOCIATION.] A Strange Story. Auckland, To-day. A report was made to the police that from ten to half-past eleven last night someone firing from the beach near the foot of the CoUego hill, in the direction of a block of residences lying along the gully. One resident’s house was repeatedly struck by the bullets, and the windows of the adjacent house in course of erection were riddled with bullets. The police are investigating the affair. An Abandoned Work. Wellington, To-day. The Government decline to go on with the Greymouth harbor works. Fatal Accident. Westport, To-day. Daniel O’Neill, a fireman on board the Kawatiri, fell iff the gangway last night and was drowned. The deceased was drunk at the time, as was also his companion. The latter, therefore, was unable to render any assistance. The Torpedo Boats. Dunedin, To-day. Arrived—Lyttelton, from London. She has two torpedo boats on board.
