[REUTER’S TELEGRAMS —COPYRIGHT.] Agricultural Statistics. Melbourne, Yesterday. The agricultural reporter of the Leader estimates the yield of wheat in Victoria for the present season at 14,900,000 bushels, being an average of 14)£ bushels to the acre. The quantity available for export is estimated at 8,150,000 bushels. The Wool Sales. The New Zealand loan and Mercantile Agency Co, Limited, have resumed their series of wool auctions after the holidays. I’he catalogue today comprised 4,000 bales, the bulk consisting of small parcels of medium to inferior wool. There was a large attendance of buyers, and a brisk competition was experienced. Choice and medium wools were in good demand, and prices were firmly maintained. Nearly all lots were sold at satisfactory prices, but owing to the length of the catalogue parcels of scoured and fleeces have been held over until to-morrow. Shipping. Sydney, Yesterday. Sailed, this afternoon—The Union steamship Rotomahana, for Auckland ; and P.M.S. City 01 Sydney, for San Francisco via Auckland. Steamer on Fire. The steamer Tomki returned to port to-day, reporting that when thirty miles from the Heads last night it was found that a fire had broken out on board, and that one of the passengers had lost his life by suffocation. South Australian Revenue. Adelaide, Yesterday. The approximate revenue returns show a large falling off in the receipts from general sources. The Customs duties are expected to be 140,000 below the estimate. .The Suez Mail. Albany, Yesterday. Arrived yesterday evening in King George’s Sound—The P. and O. steamship Carthage, with the inward mails via Suez and Brindisi, dated London, Nov. 30th.
[Received Jan. 4, 1 p.m.] New South Wales Revenue. Sydney, To-day. The New South Wales revenue for the last quarter amounted to Li ,860,000, being a decrease of L? 2 6,5 00 as compared with the December quarter of 1882, The revenue for the year ended 31st ult. amounted to L 6,480,000, being a decrease of L 942,000, as compared with that for 1882. During the year the revenue from land decreased by Li,040,000.
Queensland RevenueBrisbane, To-day. The Queensland revenue for the last quarter amounted to 1.646,000, an increase of Li 39,500 as compared with the last quarter of 1882, the increase being chiefly in Customs, land, and railway revenues.
Cricket. The cricket match between the Australian team and the Combined Australian was continued yesterday. Boyle (not out, 40) and Murdoch (not out, 279), resumed their places at the wickets, but the former was soon bowled without a score, and the innings thus ended for 619, Later.
