THE SUMMER RACE MEETING.

To the Editor. ; Sib, —“ One of the Unhappy Public ” who wrote to you last night about certaiii matters in connection with the Summer Race Meeting, appears to think that the meeting was held under the auspiiea of the Ashburton Racing Club. Such was not the case ; the Club had nothing whatever to do with it. The. meeting was got up by-a number of gentlemen—some being members ef the Racing Club and some hot—etitirely oh their own account. They appointed their own stewards, - made their own arrangements, and took the whole responsibility upon their own shoulders. They hired the racecourse from the Racing olub for a stipulated sum ; but beyond letting the course to the Summer Race Committee, the Ashburton Racing Olub had no more to do with the affair than the man in the moon. . Hence, if anything went wrong, the blame must not be charged to the Olub.—l am etc., A Member of the A.R.,0.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —Your correspondent—one of the unfortunate public—evidently wrote under the impression that the late Summer race meeting was held by the Ashburton Racing Club, and that the stewards of this Club were responsible for the treatment of Minerua. This is incorrect, as the Olnb had nothing whatever to do with the management of the meeting.—l am, etc., S. Sauhdebs, Secretary A.R.C.
