THE ANNEXATION CONFERENCE.

[REUTER'S TELEGRAMS. —COPYRIGHT.] Melbourne, Yesterday. The intercolonial Convention, which concluded its sittings at Sydney on Saturday last, is regarded here as a great success. A grand banquet is to be given to-night, at the Houses of Parliament, to the delegates of the various colonies, who are now in Melbourne, with Mr Service, Premier, as host. The various resolutions proposed by Mr Whitaker and others, and agreed to by the Convention, have been transmitted to the Imperial Secretary of State for the Colonies by telegraph. [Received Deo. 11, 12,30 pm J Sydney, To-day. Lord Rosebery was present last night at a dinner given by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, and replying to the toast of his health spoke highly of the importance which must be attached to the Intercolonial Convention as marking a distinctive epoch in the history of the Australasian Colonies. In its resolutions regarding the convict question, the Convention, Lord Rosebery remarked, spoke with a power which could not be claimed by the colonies individually. The Convention spoke to the whole world as a mouthpiece of a united nation, with a determination to take part in future events, and had determined to control the present as regards its individual self. .
