bound from Sydney to Hobart struck on Hippolyta Rook, about thirty miles fiom Cape Pihar, on the south-east coast of Tasmania. The vessel struck in fine weather, about a quarter to six, and in less than twenty minutes sank. Whan the vessel struck the chief officer was in charge. The passengers and crew behaved with the greatest order and calmness. Boats were quickly lowered, and the crew and passengers hurriedly embarked, Just in time to pull away, when the vessel sank. They were lauded at Fortescue Bay, when Mr and Mrs Hornsby, who occupy a cottage near the shore, showed them every kindness. The passengers were taken to Hobart by the Coumia. The vessel was valued at L 14,600. The mails were all lost.
