ASHBURTON SUMMER RACES.
The Commit)ea of the above met at Quill’s Hotel Saturday evening, when the minutes of the last meeting were confirmed, and the hon secretary reported that the gratifying number of 4 > nominations had been received, and a mutually convenient date arranged on which the handicappers would transact their business ; that Mr A. Harrison had kindly consented to act as clerk of the sties in lieu of the gentleman originally proposed, who expected to be absent from the district on the race day ; also that satisfactory terms had been arranged for the services of Messrs Hobbs and Goodwin’s totalisator and the Ashburton Brass Band. The license to use the totalisator bad been received and necessary arrangements with the Railway and Police Departments would be made in due course. Resolutions were carried to the i ffjet that Mr Bullock be asked to undertake the sale of privileges on Saturday the loch iust., and that, consequent on Mr Brittan’a absence from the district, Mr C. A. Calvert be offered a fee to act as starter, and the meeting adjourned. TIMARU MIDSUMMER MEETING.
