[by telegraph.] Wellington, To-day. At the Island Bay races to-day there was a fair attendance. Maiden Plate, of 15 sovs ; 1 mile. Mr Chitham’s Ruby King 1 Mr Freeth’s Swordsman 2 Mr Prosser’s Kgmont 3 Woodstock, Attaria, Gabble, and Jack were scratched. Rimu and Fairy Queen started. A good race throughout, Ruby King winning by a length and a-half from Swordsman, with Egmont twolengths behind. The inside totalisator paid L 3 13s, and outside L2 14s as dividends. The second and third horses in the Hutt Park Spring Handicap Lave been disqualified on the ground of passing inside the post. The Club will consider at another meeting whether is will pay second and third money over to horses which finished fourth and fifth. DUNEDIN SPRI-vG MEETING. [by telegraph.] Dunedin, To-day. The attendance at the races was about 600. Shortly after the first race was decided heavy rain fell. Proceedings were opened with t’-e Hunter’s Plate, for which five acceptors started. Wild Boy was installed first favorite, but after going a mile and a quarter fell on the flit and was pulled up limping. It is un’ikely he will race again. Encore ran round the first hurdle. A desperate race ensued all the way up the straight between Little John and Melbourne, resulting in fsvor of the former by a short hoa 1 . Kirearea was third. Time—4nin 15»ec. In the President’s 11a'dicap Taiaroa romped home, Viohn sec nid, 11 ippodaraia a poor third. Bin ; Jacket was left at the post, and came in last. Time—2mia 17sec. Totalisator dividend, L2 2s.
