AUSTRAL'Af>. [REUTER’S TELEGRAMS—COPYRIGHT.} Railway Accident. Melbourne, Yesterday. A serious railway accident occurred on the Essendon line at noon to-day. The train, which was conveying visitors to the races had passed North Mel- ; bourne station, when the axle of one of the second class carriages broke, causing the carriage to upset. Three passengers, who were severely injured, were conveyed to the hospital, and one of them now lies in a dangerous condition. The other passengers escaped with a severe shaking. The Salvationist MurdererThe Salvationist Knowles, who confessed to having murdered the actor Bates, and was arrested by the police, has been remanded for a week. The Queensland Ministry. Brisbane, Yesterday. The Hon. G. W. Griffiths has successfully effected the formation of a Ministry in succession of Sir T. Mcllraith’s Government. The various portfolios have been allotted as follows: Premier and Colonial Secretary, Hon. G. W. Griffiths; Colonial Treasurer, Mr J, R. Dickson; Postmaster-General, Mr J. Garrick; Attorney-General, Mr A, Rutledge; Secretary of Public Works, Mr A, Miles; Secretary of Public Lands, Mr Dutton; without portfolio, Mr Sheridan. Disastrous Cyclone. A destructive cyclone passed over the town of Toowoomba to-day. The gasworks were totally destroyed by the violence of the wind, the manager being killed. Other damage to a considerable extent was done to buildings and pro* perty along the path of the storm.
