complaints from the third class passengers by the lonic, a.i 1 none were made when the Health Officer mustered the passengers on arrival, and aake.l if there were any complaints. Dr House, of Lyttelton, who was in charge of the Government immigrants on board, denies that the third class passengers have grounds of complaint, a.nd says the food was excellent. Several of the passengers write to the morning paper to the same effect. The Company will probably ask the Government to make a full enquiry.
Fedestrianism. Christchurch, To-day. Edwards.haa accepted White’s offer to compete with Scott for LIOO in a4B hours’ walking match. Fire. A four-roomed house in Sydenham was burned this morning. It was insured for Ll4O in the Victoria office. The Tongario. The New Zealand Shipping Company have received a cable that the Tongariro arrived at Teneriffe on November 3, at 12 o’clock, and left the following day. The journey from Plymouth to Teneriffe occupied 4£ days.
Stock SalesAt the sale of pore merinos, the property of the Hon R. Campbell, of Otekaite, the following prices for hoggets were realised ;—LISO, to Mr Murchison ; L 96, to Mr Jackson ; L4O, to Mr Teschmaker ; L4B, to Mr Teschemaker; LBO, to Mr Buckland ; L 65, to Mr Oordy. A number of rams were sold at prices ranging from L 45 to L2l. The pedigree bull “ Sir Harry,” the property of the N.Z. Pedigree Stock Co., was sold at 50 guineas. The “ Duke of Albany ” was passed in at 160, and “Duke of Fashion” 37£ guineas.
Orangeism. Dunedin, To-day, At the Protestant Alliance Fdte Mr Larnaoh moved, and the Rev. Mr Ward seconded the following resolution, which was carried :—“ We condemn the Irish Land League and its professional agitators, as being responsible for the atrocious assassinations and outrages that have recently disgraced Ireland, and therefore are of opinion it behoves all Orangemen and Protestants in New Zealand to carry out their principles, to increase their vigilance and to still further prove their oyalty. ”
