The proportion of reserve to liabilities now stands at 43 pec cent. The Bank rate of discount remains at 3 per cent, and the market rate at Consols are unchanged at iq2}4. New Zealand securities are quoted as follows: —Five per cent. 10-40 Loan, ios)4; Five per cent. 1889 Loan, ex div ; Four and a half per cent. 1879-1904 Loan, ioo|£ ; Four per cent. Inscribed Stock, ibo, ex div. The wheat market is unchanged; Adelaide wheat, ex store, 458; New Zealand do, 38s 6d to 433 6d. Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 325. Australian tallow—best beef, 395; best mutton, 40s 6d. The total stock of tallow in London to-day is 11,800 casks, being an increase of 2,000 casks as compared with last month. Queensland Debentures. It is announced that the Queensland Government have arranged with tfte Bank of England for the conversion into inscribed stock of L 2,500,000 of four per cent, debentures issued in May last. Suing for Peace. Telegrams to hand from Zanzibar state that the Hovas are evincing a desire to come to terms with the French, and recently offered to treat for a cessation ot hostilities. The offer was accepted by Admiral Gallagher, and negotiations are now proceeding. [Received Nov. 3, 2.39 p.m.] A Royal Commander. London, Nor,2, H.R.H. the Duke of Connaught left by the overland route for India to assume the command of the military division at Meerut. Reward. The Government offer a reward of Li,ooo for any information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators of the recent dynamite outrages in the Metropolitan underground railway. AUSTRALIAN. Lady Constance Phipps, whose death is announced in the English telegrams, was the daughter of the Marquis of Normanby. Arrival of the ‘‘ Vagabond.” The “ Vagabond,” who has been in New Hebrides as special correspondent to the Argus has arrived at Cooktown, Queensland.
