TRAINING NOTES. [by telegraph.] Christchurch, To-day. The work on the course this morning was witnessed by a largo crowd of spectators. Charmer, Talebearer, and Trinket did a fast half mile in dne style. Dime and Murat did similar work. The Watersprite colt and Take Mias (the Miss Flat filly) did good steady work. Lady Evelyn did a half mile at three-quarters speed ; Hippodamia, a three mile sweat, galloping well ; Lady Emma, July, and Spinaker, a mile and a half at a moderate pace;

Poet and Jilt two miles, galloping splendidly ; Adamant did steady exercise J Welcome Jack and Envious did a strong gallop of two miles, moving very freely; Taiaroa and Hyacinth a mile and a half at a steady pace ; Tasman, three miles at a good swinging gallop; Marchioness Neil accompanied him for two miles, Siesta bringing him home fast.

VICTORIAN RACING.

The weather is fine for the races today, and the number of visitors arriving from the other colonies is larger than usual. There is great excitement, and business is good. For the Derby— Archie continues a firm favorite at 5 to 4 on him 100 to 30 agst Off Color (tk and off) 6 1 Martini Henry 10 8 Sardius (tk) 100 For the Cup—--7 to 1 agst Calma, who is firm at that, figure 100 8 Stock well (tk), and is heavily backed to win a large stake 100 price for fair doubles without Archie, who ranges from 100 to 3 to 100 to 4 and mixed, for heavy stakes. The Derby is generally considered a certainty for Archie. I will, however, adhere to Signor or Sardias to win the race.

The Cup betting is unchanged.
