HAWKE’S BAT RACES.

[by telegraph.] Napier, To-day. There was not a large attendance on the,'course to-day. The grand stand was crowded, but there were few on the course. There was a constant fall of rain. The following are the results : Hawke’s Bat Guineas. Escopeta ... 1 Oberon ... 2 Briar ... ... ... ... 3 Four horses faced the starter for the Guineas. A good start was effected, Jacob starting off with the lead, but he was soon passed by Escopeta, who finally won hands down. Coming into the straight, Escopeta was challenged by Oberon, whose jockey worked hard, but without success, tha horses coming in as before. Jacob was a bad fourth. Snider and Marjory were scratched. Handicap Hurdle Race. . Doubtful ... 1 Pastime ... 2 Loch Lomond 3 Waewaetiki was scratched. Doubtful made the running right through, closely followed by Loch Lomond until the straight was reached, when Pastime gave a final challenge, coming in a good second. Reform was in the rear throughout. At the first hurdle Wild Dayrell and J uliet fell, and the latter give up the race. Wild Dayrell’s jockey quickly re-mounted, but he bad no show after his mishap. At the third hurdle the first time round Fear Not fell. Lonehand looked promising, but his weight told against, him the second time round. He took all the hurdles without baulking once.
