A COACH ACCIDENT.

A Narrow Escape.

. [by telegraph.] Greymouth, To-day.

A bad coach accident happened this morning. The brake gave way when the Reefton coach was coming down the Twelve Mile hill. John Mitchell, the proprietor, and two passengers were very much hurt. Two horses were killed and the coach smashed to pieces. LiTEE. Further particulars re coach accident, state that Mitchell was driving, the regular driver being inside. On the box seat at the rear . were Mrs Temperley, Miss Kilgour, and Mr Qolightly, a commercial traveller. Inside, besides the driver, were a lady, a jockey named Sandy, and a Chinaman. Those inside the coach escaped comparatively uninjured, beyond a severe shaking; those outside also escaped miraculously. The coach fell on tup of Miss Kilgour, but she sustained only slight injuries. Mitchell is very much cut and bruised, and his jcollar bone is broken. He got on his feet after the accident but soon fell down. The bill is usually known as Oeverey’s or Twelve Mile,, and is very dangerous The passengers agree that but for Mitchell’s presence of mind ia steering bis team up aga.nst the bank all would have been precipitated into the creek and probably killed.
