NEWS FROM FIJI.
[by telegraph]. Auckland, To-day. Arrived—Penguin, from Fiji. The news are important. On September 28th a riot took place between the native laborers from the Solomon and Santo Islands, and one man was seriously injured. Twenty of the rioters were arrested and imprisoned. On Sept. 29th a public meeting was held in Levnka, at which a memorial to be presented to the Federation Conference at Sydney .was adopted. The memorial sets forth that the system of Government adopted in a Crown colony is opposed to the spirit of the age and society combined, and the powerful influence of the Convention will be exercised with the Imperial authorities in procuring their consent to the incorporation of the colony with federated Australia.
