The Union Company contemplate a weekly s'ervice to Sydney via Auckland, for which purpose the Arawata Is being overhauled. The Takapuna is expected to commence running in the ; middle of November. She is to run between Lyttelton and the Mannkan via Wellington and Taranaki, only connectingat Ly ttelton with the express train, making three trips each fortnight. She leaves Lyttelton on Sundays, Thursdays and Mondays, and the Manakau on the intervening Mondays, Saturdays and Thursdays, occupying 40 hours on the passage. Special conditions attach to travelling by her. No increase is to bomadeon the present ordinary single fares, but return tickets will not be issued, nor will'Bhe b* available for passengers holding through tickets or forwarding passes. The Company intend to introduce a Haslam refrigerating machine on one ef .their steamers, so that dairy produce cajtfc be carried between New Zealand and the Australian colonies. They intend _to being out boat capable of storing from 3,000 to 4,000 carcases of sheep in a frozen state, and so enable coastal towns to send stock to any port where a vessel is loading frozen meat fer the London market.
