At the requiem mass celebration yesterday at St Mary’s Cathedral seven bishops were present and there was a large congregation. Bishop Redwood preached an eloquent panegyric oh the late Archbishop Vaughan. It has transpired that the deceased prelate ~ has left all his property, which has been sworn at L 6,826 to the Church. The Minister of Railways and the “ Argus.” • , Melbourne,- To-day, Mr Gillies, Minister for Railways announced in the Assembly last night, that it is intended to use the Woods break on all the lines: north of. the Yarra, and the Westinghouse break on the southern lines. The Argus tp-day commenting on this announcement, strongly condemns the decision of the Railway Department. [Received Sept. 21, 3 p.m.J The Terrible Ware at Snnda. Cooktown, To-day. The steamseip Roma from London via Batavia, brings later details regarding the Sunda disaster* which fully confirms the previous news that a tidal wave one hundred feet in height swept several large vessels fully three ' miles inland, where they remained high' and dry, and the crews have all been saved. The Roma found the sea around Java covered with pumice,, and the engines became choked. All familiar land marks had disappeared, and the loss of life set down at 75,000, but it was not possible to estimate the amount of damage to property. Red Rust. , Adelaide, To-day. Reports are to hand that red rust has shown itself among the wheat crops in the northern districts of this colony. The statement has not, however, been fully confirmed.
