1 [per press association.] ! An Accident. , Auckland, To-day. Two boys, named Bydder, aged fifteen years, and Hughes, aged thirteen, were | (ut seagull shooting, when the former’s gun went off accidentally. The ball, whioh was a marble, struck Hughes on the neck, travelling down his back and lodging in the lower part. The wound , has been probed without discovering the ball, but the boy seems to bear up well. Bydder is the boy who swam ashore from the boat out of which Professor Walker was drowned. Hughes is the grandson of Mr Hughes, a solicitor. The Natives. New Plymouth, To-day About 200 natives cn route to Parihaks passed through town this morning. About 30 of the natives who offered violence to Mr Hursthouse were amongst them. The natives intend to be present at a to/ngi at Oakura to-day, and then to proceed to Parihaka. Amongst the natives ate some of the worst of the late disturbers of the peace. The natives sayHhey will go to Parihaka and nothing shall stop them. The Tidal Wave. Wellington, To-day. Captain Edwin has received the following telegram this morning re the tidal wave at Mongonui.—“ The seahaS been rushing in and receding with much rapidity for several hours.” A Home Vessel. Arrived, at the Heads—The New Zealand Shipping Co’s ship Wairoa (Captain Hclbeach) from London, 101 days out. A New Railway. The Patea extension line from Waverle/ to Manutahi was opened yesterday. Earthquake. , A sharp shock of earthquake was felt at 4 30 this morning. More about the Wave; Captain Ed/vin received a telegram, timed 9 a.m., from Russell, stating that a tidal wave had been experienced there, also a further message from Mongonui stating that the first rush of water took place at 10 p.m. last night, but it was nothing of any consequence until four this morning, lasting until ten o’clock. The Wellington Frozen Meat Company The second annual meeting of the Wellington Meat Export Company was held to-day. The accounts for the year show a net profit of L 930 13s lid, derived from interest on deposits and profits on shipments, which it is recommended should be applied in reduction of the preliminary expenses by the sum of LIOO, by appro-
pyiaiion of L 399 to the purpose of a dividend a tthe rate of 3s 3d per share, or equal to 10 per cent per annum, leaving a mm of L33113s lid to be carried forward. The Directors report favoiably on the Company’s prospects. A Prospective Libel Action. It is stated that Lotti Wilmott has instructed a solicitor to issue a writ in the Supreme Court against a well known citizen in Wellington for recovery of damages for alleged defama'ion of character. The damages will be fixed at L 2.000. The Oxford Immigrants. A young woman named Crabb, aged 17, one of the immigrants by the Oxford, died at the quarantine station this morn ing from typhoid fever. She was one of tiie first attacked. The lonic’s Cargo. Dtjnbdin, To-day. The Refrigerating Company has received a cable advising that the lonic’s meat was realising an average of 7|d per lb. The market has a declining tendency.
