The two informers, Kavanagh and Hanlon, have each written a letter declaring that in consequence of the public feeling which has been manifested in Melbourne against the witnesses in the Phoenix Park trial, they have no desire to land in the colony, and solicit that they may be quietly sent to Calcutta or England. They state that they shipped through the instrumentality of Detective Simmons of the Police Force, and that their passages were engaged by him. According to the most authentic information the Government-intend to re-ship the informers toEngland.^

A Heavy Sentence. Sydney, Yesterday. The two men Egan and Scanlan, -who stuck up and robbed Topham, contractor for the Nepean waterworks, of Li, 500 on the road between Camden and Campbell Town, were brought up for trial to-day and found guilty of robbery with arms, and sentenced to twelve years on the roads. Fire. McAlister’s drapery store at Cobar was destroyed by fire. The loss is estimated at LB,OOO, part of which was covered by insurance. [Received August 7,12.45 p.m.] Allowed to LandSydney, To-day.
It has transpired that the Government has decided to permit the landing of the informers here from the Pathan, for their own protection. The Suez Mail. Melbourne, To-day. The Pathan sailed yesterday for Sydney with the informers on board, accompanied by Detpctive Mackey. Smith'continues to deny his identity, add is very violent. It is possible he may be deported to Calcutta.
