The latest accounts to hand from Cassamiciola show conclusively that nearly two thousand persons were killed by the recent earthquake, and that fully a thousand have received injuries of a more or less serious nature. Carey Assassinated. Capetown, July 30. Intelligence has been received hpre from Port Elizabeth that the Phceaix Park informer, James Carey, was shot dead yesterday on board the steamer Melrose, by a man named O’Donnell, who had been a fellow passenger with him from London. The attack was 4 very sudden one, and Carey died lOv stantly of the wound received.
