[per press association.} A Difficulty SettledGisborne, To-day. The Bromley episode has been amicably arranged, and the cases withdrawn from court. The defendant admitted he was lawfully married to the lady who came here from Sydney to see him. It was stated in evidence that Bromley was married to the woman he lived with as his wife in Gisborne, but there appears, to be some difficulty in producing the register of such alleged marriage. Mrs Bromley, it is understood, accepts LSO and returns to her family in Australia. A Presentation. Napier, To-day. At the Hawke’s Bay County Council yesterday, Mr Sutton, M.H.R. was presented with a splendid solid silver centre piece, in token of his services as Chairman for many years. Owing to Mr Sutton’s absence in Wellington, a complimentary letter was forwarded to him, stating that the presentation had been sent to his residence, and regretting it could not have been made in person. Censured. In the inquiry re the wreck of the Transit, the decision of the Court was that the captain committed an error of judgment in remaining in tberoadatead with the vessel in a disabled condition. The Gaol Enquiry. Wellington, To-day. The Dunedin Gael Commission continues the taking of the evidence. The long-sentence prisoner Garrett was examined. He deposed to irregularities in the gaol, and to having been frequently assaulted by Mr Caldwell in the presence of the Visiting Justice and warders. He bad also seen Mr Caldwell and the warders on several occasions in a state of intoxication. A Divorce Case. Dunedin, To-day. An interesting divorce case comes before Mr Justice Williams next month. The petitioner is George BallingaU Stewart, of Victoria, who seeks to hare his marriage with Lucie Stewart annulled on the ground of her adultety with William Hay Dickson. He claims L 2,000 damages. The main issue is as to the custody of a child born of the marriage.
