[per PRESS association.] Supreme Court. Wellington, To-day.-At the Supreme Court this morning, the case of Hunt v. Sir Arthur Gordon was commenced. It will extend over three days.
The Gaol Enquiry. The Dunedin Gaol Commission are sitting at the Mount Cook prison. The evidence of the prisoner Cummock is being taken. It is generally unfavorable to the management of the gaol. ' Methodist Union. Christchurch, To-day. Arrangements have been made by the Methodist Union Committee for receiving replies on the subject from various cbnrch authorities. A company is recomm -wdod for publishing a weekly Methodist : -per. Tt is expected that the first confers ace of the United Church will be held in January, 1885.
The Minter Case. Dunedin, To-o * In Minter’s case the prisoner chalh-> r £v. seven and the Crown five jurors. Dunedin Liquor. Professor Black, reporting on anu i-v of samples of alcoholic liquor seize - by the police in Dunedin and country districts, says that the brandies rangpd-lr -’n proof to 32 under, whiskies from 10 i ■ under, rums from proof to 30 under, ~'! " about 22 under. He complains ,pf undue prevalence of table salt in --he beers. Nearly alt the brandies had es tussive quantities of tannin. The police sitend prosecuting several hotel-keepers.
