[REUTER’S TELEGRAMS—COPYRIGHT.] The Austral. Melbourne, Saturday. A telegram has been received announcing the arrival of the steamship Austral, all well, at Rio de Janeiro, on the 12th ihst. She put in to,, replenish her supply of coal. Unfavorable weather was experienced on the passage. Sadden Death. Miss Blanche Stammers, . actress, died this morning, after an illness of only a few hours. She took part in the performance at the Theatre Royal last night as usual. [Received July 16, 12.45 p,m.] > The Suez Canal. ! s Melbourne, To-day. Mr Service, the Premier, has received a telegram from the Associated Chambers of Commerce in Great Britain to the effect that in their opinion the agreement recently, concluded between the Government and the Count de Lesseps for the construction of the Suez Canal will hamper the Australian trade for the next fifty years.
Parliamentary. Mr Jas. Service, as Colonial Treasurer, will probably make his Financial Statement on Wednesday next.
