[by telegraph.] Auckland, To-day. At the Supreme Court Civil Sessions to-day, the mortgagees of the Oddfellows’ Hall at Hamilton obtained judgment for L 873 against several gentlemen who had become trustees on behalf of the Lodge. Judgment for L 750 was given against Mr John Sheehan, M.H.R., under a claim arising out of the disposal pf hi i interest in a block of land near Wanganui. Gisborne, To-day. The first sitting of the Supreme Court at Gisborne commenced yesterday before His Honor Sir Jas. Prendergast, who, in his charge to the Grand Jury, congratulated the district on having succeeded in getting a Court established. Only three cases were set down for trial, viz., murder, arson, and assault with intent. The Grand Jury returned a true bill in each case. Several important civil actions are to come on, in which prominent men are interested. The charge against MoKelvie for criminally assaulting Mrs Mackie, alius Pranley, lasted all day. The jury returned a verdict of “ Not guilty.” A native named Whitiwhiti pleaded guilty to setting fire to his wharp, and was sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment. The murder case is proceeding. Timaru, To-day. At the Supreme Court the case, the Trustee in Creamer’s Estate v. McLeod, closed last night, a verdict for ttye defen r dant being given. The question of cests was deferred for consideration. Hayhurst v. Matthews and Tresize, claim of L 935 damages for breaches of covenant in connection with certain lands leased ..to the. defendants by plaintiffs ia now proceeding.
