The Aborigines Protection ;Society has written a letter to Earl Derby, Secretary of State for the, Colonies, regarding the projected annexation of New Guinea. The Society urges that the Island should be annexed by Great Britain as a Crown colony, instead of being placed under the jurisdiction of the Queensland Government. The Czar’s Coronation. y H.R. H. the'Buke of Edinburg and Lord Wolseley left London for Moscow to attend the coronation of the Czar on Sunday, 27th inst. Monetary and Commercial. The total reserve in the Bank of England in notes and bullion has decreased by L 500,000 during the week, and is now L 9,800,000. The proportion of reserve to liabilities lias farther fallen to 32 per cent. Daniel Curley, the second of the Phcenix Park assassins, was executed to-day. -There was an immense crowd of people outside the gaol, and much sympathy was exp/essed with the murderer.
