[per PRESS ASSOCIATION.] A Land Dispute. Auckland, To-day.
Mr Cornwall, of Samoa, whose dealings with Messrs McArthur and Co. have been several times before the public, and who recently horsewhipped a member of the firm in Queen street, has drawn up and transmitted to the Secretary of State for the Colonies a petition entering fully into all the circumstances of the case, and contending that the seizure of land made by Messrs McArthur was unjust and illegal, and injurious to the interests of a large number of the natives of Samoa. It is reported in town that Mr Cornwall has got up a comp ny in connection with Samoa, and that Mr John Luudon left by the jerque India on Sunday to take possession of the land in dispute. Arson. New Plymouth, To-day, At the Supreme Court, the .case of Daniels, for arson, was called on to-day, and is now being proceeded with. A Terrible Fate. Fbilding, To-day. A shocking fatal accident occurred here yesterday. A boy, ten years of age, named - William Salisbury was thrown from his horse. One of his feet caught in the stirrup, .the horse plunged about and then bolted,: dragging the unfortunate lad for about a mile. The body was found near the railway crossing shockingly mutilated, being disemboweled, both legs and arms broken, and the skull scalped and fractured. The body presented a most ghastly appearance. An inquest will be held to-day. T|te Minister pf Lands, Cheistohuech, To-day. Mr Bolleston left for Wellington this afternoon. Fatal AccidentA lad named Webb, an apprentice on the barque Cairnburg, fell off the yard to-day, and was killed.
