The Claimant.— TheLondon GIoJk of a late date, contains the followingln connection with: the expedition, to Australia of Messrs Charles Orton and D. Smith, of OWrkenwell, for the purpose of identifying the lunatic William Cresawell, at present confined in the Paramatta Asylum, near Sydney, as Arthur Orton, an extraordinary piece of evidence Jits come to light. It appears that Mr Smith had , some considerable correspondence with the late Mr Guildford Onslow* in reference to the proposed expeditioartd Australia, and in a letter' to .Mr Smithy written in April last, before his .death, Mr Onslow says :—“1 had an interview at some considerable. length with :.Sifc Henry Parkes, C 8,, M.G., in London on Wednesday last, who received mf with great courtesy. He remarked that as he had visited both Darlinghurst and Paramatta asylums, he no doubt among the inmates saw Cress well, whom; hp called Arthur Orton, but he never:>know him by his 1 name, and that he had 'atvae even read the Tichbome case, boss regards Arthur Orton, or Oresawell, you will see Sir Henry Parkes ia of ho USe tb us in this matter.” After detailing lat some length his interview with Sir Henry Parkes, Mr Onslow thus sums* the matter up :—“Prudence suggests 'that.-iyqu’or Mr Kimber, the claimant’s so’icitor; op a deputation should wait ad . Sir Henry Parkes (who was then in: this country), with the object of giving to him the aeead sary guarantees and notary piiblic document to enable him to send-over thfe said document forthwith, by which yon and Charles Orton will be saved:an Axpensive and useless voyage to: Sydney. The following* questions- will thehiariaarh I. What will you do with CresAwell on his arrival ? 8. How do you prbpdfca&l meet the well-k'nown facfc that Mran Jhry and Lady Tichbome have shown that ~t he lunatic is not Arthur Octbn I ■Si /How do you propose to secure that Cresswell’s brother in Beading will swear he is not his brother!
