It was announced that the Treasurer will, deliver his Financial Statement on the 25th inst The Tararua Gold Robbery. -Adelaide, Yesterday. . The police have discovered a quantity of gold, amounting to 276 ounces, which it is alleged formed part of the bullion stolen from the Union Company’s ill-fated steamship Tararua some time before the loss of that vessel. It appears that a man named Hunter, who was formerly steward on board the Tararua, died on Sunday last, and before bis death he requested his friends to forward to his brother in San Francisco a box, the contents of which he kept secret. Suspicion was aroused, and the box being opened, was found to contain gold, and information was given to the police. [Received Jan. 19, 1.15 p.m.] Adelaide, To-day. There is but little further information regarding the gold discovery. The man Hinton (r/V) was formerly second steward of the Tararua, and died of consumption Sunday last. He had been for a long time under police surveillance. The gold consists of a single ipgot, and Was contained in an unbound box. It i$ doubtful whether Hinton was the sole robber, and the police are making further investigations. A Dispute Settled.
