[per press association.] Tho Hamilton-Priestly Case. Auckland, To-day. The Hamilton case was today. The evidence taken to mid-day consisted of the testimony of women, neighbors of tbeHamiltons, who deposed that Priestly frequently visited the house, sometimes .three times a day. Mrs Hamilton had frequently expressed a desire of separation from her husband, once saying that nothing but death or divorce would give her happiness. King Tawhaio on bis Travels. , Wanganui, To-day. King Tawhaio is on the way to Wanganui, via Field’s track. He left Murimctu to-day, and will arrive in town tomorrow afternoon. He is accompanied by 180 natives. The San Francisco MaiL Wellington, To-day. Tho Taiaroa, with the ’Frisco mail, crossed the Manukau bar at 10 o’clock this morning, and should she be tendered at New Plymouth to-night she will thence come direct here, -arriving to-morrow evening. ’ The Hawea will be detained until the arrival of the mail steamer to carry the Southern portion to Lyttelton. Licensing. Christchurch, To-day. . Petitions are being signed in favor of one licensing district being constituted for Christchurch, instead of four as at present. The Vacant Seat. Dunedin, To-day. Mr Donnelly’s views on education not proving satisfactory to the Catholic party it is rumored that they will bring out Mr Maloney, ex-Mayor of South Dunedin.
Mount Somers School Committee.— An ordinary meeting of the above School Committee was held in the schoolhouse on Saturday last, when there were present— Messrs I. E. Taylor (chairman), J. Price, A. Fox, J. Brown, A. Harvey, and W, H. Pnddicombe. The minutes of the previous meeting and of two special meetings held in connection with the children's treat having been read, the subscription list was presented by Mr J. B. Williams, the schoolmaster. This showed a donation from tho Hon. W. S. Peter of L2, and the following sums which had been collected :—Mr W. H. Puddicorabe, L 3 2s 6d ; Mr J. B. Williams, LI 5s ; Mary Armstrong, L2 7s 6d ; Sarah Brown, L2 2s ; Mr J. Price, 10s fid ; Mr A. Fox, 5s ; Mr L E. Taylor, LI ; Mr A. Harvey, 7a fid; proceeds of concert, L2 8s ; sale of provisions, 2s fid, These sums, with a credit balance of L 5 17s fid, which was standing at the Bank, made up the total amount to L2l 7s fid. The expenses in connection with the late treat were estimated at about Ll 9, and a balance of LI 8s was carried forward. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded to Mr Puddicombe for the trouble he had taken to make tho treat a success, and to Mr Back, of Christchurch, and Mr Arthur, the stationmaster at Ashburton, for having been so ready to provide train accommodation. As this was tho last meeting at which the chairman of the committee would be present, he being about to leave the district, the opportunity was embraced of conveying to that gentlemen tho high appreciation in which he was held by the committee, arid a special vote of thanks was accorded to him for the way in which ho had carried out his duties. It was decided that Mr Harper should be asked to audit the school’s accounts, as he had so kindly done last year.
