Dunedin, To-dayt
A large wooden building in Stuart street was destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon. The house was owned by Dr Stenhouse and tenanted by Mrs Russell, who kept a boarding house, and was . the only person in'the building when the'fire was discovered. The brigade saved the adjoining building. The furniture was under insured. The mortgagee held a policy of L7OO in the Victoria Company, on the building. Serious Accident to a Merchant.
Mr John Glendining, of Kirkpatrick and Glendining, while out shooting at Waikouaiti yesterday, met with a serious accident. His gun burst, inflicting an injury which rendered the amputation of the left arm necessary. The Peninsula Seat. The writ for the Peninsula seat, rendered vacant by the death of Mr Seaton, was issued on the 23rd ultimo, and is returnable by the 27th of this month. Sir Julius VogelChristchurch, To-day.
Sir Julius Vogel arrived in town this morning, and this afternoon interviewed the members of the Lyttelton Harbor Board re the electric lighting of the harbor.
