[rruter’s telegrams—copyright.] Shipping. Melbourne, Yesterday. Arrived, last night—Orient steamship John Elder, from Plymouth (Nov. 18). Revenue Returns, Melbourne, Dec. 31. The analysis of the revenue returns for the December quarter shows that in comparison with the corresponding period of last year, the Customs ■ have increased by L. 49,000,; and railway receipts by 1.33,250, while the excise revenue has decreased by Li. 4,000, and territorial revenue 1 by 13,000. A qcmparisori of the year’s returns with those of 1881 shows the following increase in Customs : —L85,000 (of which spirits give 1.35,000), and in railways Li 13,500. The territorial revenue has decreased during the year to L 54,000. Adelaide, Yesterday. The South Australian revenue returns were published to-day. The receipts for the quarter ended December 31 amount to L 473,000. being a decrease oP L 70,000 as'compared 'with the corresponding quarter of last year. The Customs’ revenue during the same period has increased by LIB,OOO. Territorial receipts have decreased by LBo,qoo. The revenue for the past half year was Lg 6,000 below the estimate. Another Shipping Disaster. Melbourne, To-day. The ship Thirlrnere, from London, reports that on the voyage she spoke the barque Undine, bound from Cardiff to Colombo. The captain and six of the crew of the latter had been wash.ed overboard in a heavy gale.
