METHVEN SPORTS.
These annual sports were heldon New 4 ” Year’s Day in this d&ing township,_and were very well attended, about 300 persons being present. The programme was & a long one, and substantial prizes were awarded. The committee worked very hard, and deserve praise for manner in which the several events were ' gone through. There wore only three accidents, none of which were fortunately ’, of a serious character. The first was thftfj fall of the rider of St. Julian in the-I-Hurdle Race, and a child ef Mr King was also knocked down by a horse on account of the recklessness of the rider, and was cut and bruised about the face and body'.'' The chapter of accidents was concluded^ 1 by a man, who was standing near the competitor in the throwing the hamtnerig contest, receiving a heavy blow from the missile.
