LATE CABLE NEWS.
London, Dec. 3. The Sultan of Turkey is suffering from 1 an abscess, and is at present in a very prostrate condit ion. Gambetta has been compelled to have one of his forefingers amputated, in consequence of his recent accident. The Government have decided upon granting a general gratuity to the Irish Constabulary, as some recognition of their faithful services under the very trying circumstances. Arabi Pasha has written a letter to the Times newspaper, which affirms that England will on some future date acknowledge the justice of his cause, and admit that he was justified in raising the standard of revolt on behalf of the Egyptian'' liberties. The Italian Government are making some important changes in the military organisation of the kingdom. It is intended to increase the efficiency of the national militia by insisting that the various battalions shall be more frequently called out, and that there shall be longer periods for drill and manoeuvres. London, Deo. 7. -The people of Manchester are unanimous in their determination to persevers with the scheme for constructing a ship canal to c nnect the city with the River Mersey, their object being to secure the advantages of direct sea communication without, as at present, having to receive and send their goods via Liverpool. It has been decided that colonial banks having tbeir he .d office in London must collect the income tax on the deposits of their customers. At the fire at the Alhambra Theatre today several firemen engaged in extinguishing the flames were killed by the falling and burning material. Louis Blanc will be buried at Paris. His funeral will be a public one, and the occasion of a great Radical demonstration, in which it is anticipated that the Socialists will take part. The Prussian Chamber of Deputies have voted a sum of 1,000,000 marks towards the fund formed for the relief of the sufferers by the recent inundation.
