Melbourne, Dec. 13. Lord Charles Scott is expected to arrive in Melbourne early in January, to marry a lady resident in Victoria. Since the Hawthorne accident the omnibuses are crowded, and the traffic is much increased. There is a very strong feeling in Melbourne in reference to the removal of the controlofthe railways from apolitical head. At a meeting in the Town Hall of leading citizens, convened by the Mayor in answer to a requisition, resolutions affirming the necessity of the complete overhaul of the department were carried nem con. A Board has been appointed to report on the claims of the Hawthorne accident. Persons claiming compensation have the option of submitting the claims to the Board or suing the department in the usual course. The trial of Wood’s and Westinghcuse brakes, fixed for the 13th, was obliged to be postponed, as the inquest on Thomas Hay, a victim by the Hawthorne accident, was held that day. Another suspicious death has occurred, that of Mrs Margaret Robertson, a widow, and Mrs Taylor, the nurse, was committed for manslaughter on a charge of malpractice. Captain Mason, J.P., manager of the Belfast branch of the Savings Bank, arrested for embezzlement, has been twice Mayor of Belfast. . A case of interest to the theatrical world was tried in the Divor.e Court. It is one of Pringle v. Pringle (Templeton), and the wife sues for dissolution of marriage on account of Templeton’s intimacy with Miss Lambert, a well-known con<ralto. The dissolution was granted. There has bean a good deal of discussion regarding Mr Munro’s motion condemning the railway administration. One party declare it to be an attempt to make, political capital out of the disaster, and the ether party urge the need of reform. The debate commenced yesternight, and was adjourned until to-day. It is considered the Government have a considerable majority. Sydney, Dec. 13. The defeat of the Government on the recent elect! ms was most complete. Out of seventy-five members elected fifty.five were hostile to the Government.
