Sailed—Yesterday, >N.Z.S.C.’a barque Norman McLeod, for London, with a cargo of wool valued at.L32,900; also, Shaw, Saville’s barque Langstone, with a cargo valued at L 61,700. Dissatisfied. Immense dissatisfaction exists with respect to the apparent efforts of the Government to evade its declared policy in the matter of hospital maintenance. The Government says it will give LI for LI. At the end of the financial year the committee had collected L 1,500, and during the past six months had disbursed that amount in maintenance. They now demand payment to enable thorn to . expend it on the erection of additional wards. The G-vernment objects to do this, and required the committee to raise half for maintenance and building fund. Under these circumstances the public decline to subscribe for anything but building purposes. In most of the churches, both in town and in the councry, collections were made for the hospital yesterday but most meagre offertories were obtained. The Wesleyans declined to give a hospital service, and the English Church in Nap er deferred consideration of the proposal. The Devouring Element. Opunake, To-day.

About midnight on Saturday a fire broke out in Captain Good’s house at Oeo. The furniture, clothing, and nearly everything belonging to the family were destroyed. The place was insured, but the loss is heavy. A new addition to the house had just been built, which is also partly destroyed. Foundering of a Barque. Wellington, To-day.

Intelligence has been received by Messrs A. Moore and Co., Christchurch, that the barque -clim, chartered and loaded by them in Lyttelton with 978 bags of wheat for Falmouth for orders, has foundered on the voyage between Falmouth and Dunkirk. She arrived at Falmouth on the 23rd, and was ordered to Dunkirk. The cargo was insured in the South British.
