Henry Fawcett Post-master-General, is suffering from a severe attack of diphtheria, and is in a critical state. . The New Egyptian Amy. In the House of Commons to-day, Sir Charles Dilke, Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, in reply to a question, stated that the Egyptian Government had asked that a British commander and British officers might be appointed to the new Egyptian Army. The Archbishop of Canterbury. The latest report announces that Dr Tait is now expiring, and hopes of his recovery have been abandoned. Money and the Markets. Consols remain at ioiex div. New Zealand five per cent. 10-40 Loan, 104; Four and a half percent. 18891904 Loan, 102%. Total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain, 2,150,000 quarters, being 20,000 less than last week. Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, remains at 49s 6d ; New Zealand ditto has declined to 43s fid (lowest) ; Adelaide flour, ex store, 345. The total stock of tallow in the London market to-day is 13,200 casks, being an increase of 200 casks compared with the stocks last month. Australian tallow is unchanged at 42s for best beef, and 44s fid for best mutton. At today’s wool sale 5,700 bales were offered, and prices somewhat firmer. From Melbourne. The P. and O. Company’s steamship Rohilla, which left Melbourne on October 12th, arrived at Plymouth to day. Nothing New. London, Dec. 2. There are no changes to report in the money or produce markets. Wool. The catalogue at to-day’s wool sale comprised 8,400 bales. The firm prices of yesterday were maintained today. Anthony Trollope. Anthony Trollope has suffered a severe relapse, and also is in a dangerous state of health. The Wool Sales. The current series of wool auctions will close on Thursday next, Bth inst. Davitt Summoned. Michael Davitt, one of the leaders of the new Irish National League, which has for some time past been delivering speeches of an incendiary character, has been summoned to appear at the Police Court on Tuesday next, and to find sureties for his good behaviour in future. Death of the Archbishop Canterbury. London, Dec. 3. The Most Rev. Dr Tait, Archbishop

of Canterbury, died last night. Aged 71 years. Arabi’s Trial. Cairo, Dec. 2. The trial of Arabi commenced today. The business done was of purely a formal character, and the whole proceedings are not expected to occupy more than 24 hours. Ambassadorial. St. Petersburg, Dec. 2.
