The work of completing the arrangements for lighting a portion of New York by the Edison system is now almost completed. The Swedish Government have decided not to prohibit vivisection in that country, in spite of the appeal made to them by the Diet in reference thereto last session. Serious injury is being done to property in the Isthmus of Panama by continued shocks of earthquake ; but as yet there has been no loss of life. People, however, are very frightened, and are encamping in the fields rather than continue dwelling in the city.
