The weather to-day is extremely hot. A Popular Mayor. At the Council Chambers at noon today the Mayor, Mr J. G. Ruddenklau, was presented with a magnificent testimonial of silver plate, in recognition of the manner in which he had fulfilled the duties of his office during the International Exhibition year. He was also presented with a gold locket for the Mayoress (Mrs Ruddenklau). Both testimonials were the result of public subscriptions. •' ■ All Unopposed. Mr J, G. Ruddenklau was re-elecred Mayor of Christchurch to-day unopposed*; Mr John Joyce (for Sydenham) and the Hon. J. T. Peacock (for St. Albans) were also re-elected unopposed.
