[REUTER’S TELEGRAMS —COPYRIGHT.] The Premier on Egyptian Affairs. London Nov. 14. In the House of Commons to-day the Right Hon. W. E. Gladstone made his promised statement regarding the proposed settlement of affairs in Egypt. In the course of his speech he announced that negotiations are now pro? ceeding with the view to the conclusion of an Anglo-Egyptian Convention, providing that Egypt shall be charged with the cost of the British occupation, and fixing definitely the period of such occupation. In the debate which followed Sir Stafford Northcote complained that the Premier’s statement was incomplete. ’ Money and the Markets. Consols have recovered yeTerdsy’s fall and again are quoted at n2;[ New Zealand securities continue firm at yesterday’s quotations. Adelaide wheat is unchanged at 495, ex store; New Zealand do, at 43s to 465; and Adelaide flour at 33s fid. Australian tallow is quiet—best beef worth 425, and best mutton 43s fid. Favorable Progress Reported, The Land Commission in Ireland report favorable progress in fixing rents. Judge Lawson Justified. The Gray Committee justify the action of Judge Lawson in committing Mr Gray to prison. Improving. The health of the troops in Egypt is improving. Ministerial Changes. The Standard states that the Right Hon. H. C. Childers, the present Secre-

tary of State for War, becomes Chancellor of the Exchequer, vice Mr Gladstone, on December ist. Lord Northbrook, lirst Lord of the Admiralty, will, it is understood, succeed him. A Pamelliteln. London, Nov. 15. A Parnellite candidate named Kenny has been elected to the vacant seat in the House of Commons for the constituency of Ennis. Obituary. The Right Hon. In the House of Commons to-day resolutions proposed by Mr Gladstone for the reform of the procedure of the House, were again under consideration. After further debate the second rule providing that motions for adjournment cannot be made before public business has been entered upon, was voted after some mitigation of the stringency of the rule had been agreed to by the Premier. The Murder of the Joyce Family. Ten persons who were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the murder of six members of the Joyce family at Maantrasna, County Galway, on the ißth of August last, have been brought up for trial at Dublin., The prisoners have bean arraigned separately, and the trial of the first was concluded to.day, the prisoner being found : guilty. i

Reassuring. Berlin, Nov. 14. The German Diet was opened to-day by the Emperor William, who, in his speech on the occasion, stated that the peace of Europe might now be deemed to be assured. A Strike Defeated. The shipwrights’ strike has been defeated. The men resumed work on former terms. . Nipped in the Bud. * ‘ Several anarchists have been arrested at Lyons. Evidence has been obtained that they contemplated a scheme for a partial rising in that city to pave : the Way for a general outbreak throughout France. Arabi in Extenuation. Arabi Pasha has written a letter to the London Times, in which he protests that the Khedive in the first instance sanctioned the war, and that the National patty afterwards insisted on his continuing it. Queen’s Evidence. ' The trial of the murderers of the Joyce family at Maamassua, Connemara, has commenced. One of the prisoners has turned Queen’s evidence. Restored to HealthPrince Bismarck’s health is now stated to be excellent. The Cbnservatives and the Cloture. The Conservative party intend to have another trial of strength with the Government on the cloture question by proposing to limit its operations to one session only.
