The ship George Thompson, 1,128 tons, from Lundsvale, timber laden, ran ashore at the heads yesterday. She has since been floated, but is full of water. Continued Opposition. Continued opposition is being experienced by the Government in the Legislative Assembly to the proposals introduced for the conversion of the Victorian loans. The Sinking of the Austral. Sydney, Yesterday. The inquest upon the bodies of the men who were drowned by the sinking of the Austral, was resumed to-day. Captain Murdoch was examined at length, but he was unable to account in any way for the foundering of the vessel. Divers have continued their examination of the ship, but they have not recovered any more bodies, and the fate of the Lascar firemen, who it is believed were drowned, is still unknown. The Immigrant Ship NorthamptonThe Marine Board inquiry into the circumstances under which the immigrant ship Northampton struck on the reef at Port Hacking on the 21st ult., was concluded to-day. The Court found that the captain was to blame for the casualty, but have postponed dealing with his certificate until Monday next.
