The total reserve in the Bank of England in notes and bullion is Li 2,750,000, being L 250,000 below the reserve in the Bank last week. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 1,980,000 quarters. Adelaide flour, ex store, has tallen to 373 6d ; Adelaide and New Zealand wheat remain at 52s and 50s respectively. Australian tallow has advanced is per cwt., best beef being quoted at 44s 6d and best mutton at 45s 6d. The Auckland Roman Catholic Bishopric. The Rev. Father Luck, of Ramsgate College, has been appointed to the Roman Catholic Bishopric of Auckland. Arrears of Rent Bill. In the House of Commons to-day the Arrears of Rents in Ireland Bill was again under consideration, and was read a third time and passed. The Australian CricketersThe cricket match between the Australians and an Eleven of Yorkshire was resumed at Middlesborough to-day. 'The Home team continued their first innings, and were all disposed of for a total of 129. J. Grimshaw was the highest scorer with 30. Garrett bowled splendidly for the Australians. The Yorkshiremen, being 93 runs behind the Australians, followed on, and in their second innings scored 140. The
Australians, requiring 48 runs to win the match, then commenced their second innings, and at the conclusion of the day’s play had lost one wicket for 3 runs.
The cricket match at Middleboro’ Australians v. Yorkshire, resulted today in a victory for the former by seven wickets. The Australians required 48 runs to win, and these were obtained for the loss of only three wickets. M'Donnell was not out for 23, and batted splendidly. He never gave a chance. The weather was very fine to-day, but the wicket was not in good order. Money and the Markets. London, July 22. Consols have declind to 99jHj. There are no changes to report in New Zealand securities, or grain markets for colonial breadstuff's, and talloW. the National Bank of New Zealand has declared a dividend of 8 per cent, for the past half year, and carries forward Li 4,000 to the reserve. For Active Service. Instructions have been issued by the War Office for men of the Army Reserve to join the various military depots on the 2nd of August.
